How does it keep the record current?
ServiceNow fills its CMDB through its own Discovery, which is agentless for on-premises, cloud and container infrastructure and adds a unified agent and event-driven cloud updates, and through certified Service Graph Connectors that bring in data from other products. The CMDB page says it curates data from multiple sources and assesses data accuracy. How current the record stays depends on which of these are licensed, configured and maintained.
How does it work with a CMDB such as ServiceNow?
It is the CMDB. Everything else on this site either feeds it, as Axonius, Oomnitza, Lansweeper, Armis and runZero document in different ways, or competes with it as a CMDB with its own discovery, as Freshservice and Device42 do. Since April 2026 ServiceNow also owns Armis, which remains available standalone.
Where is it strong, and where are its limits?
Strengths
- Where incident, change, problem and request work actually runs, on the same CMDB.
- Native discovery and certified connectors write straight into the system of record.
Limits
- Discovery is sold with IT Operations Management, separate from ITSM, and no prices are published.
- The most administration in this set: the record is only as current as the discovery, connectors and data model your team configures and runs.

Frequently asked questions
Is ServiceNow Discovery included with the CMDB?
ServiceNow states that Discovery is available with IT Operations Management. No prices are published for ITSM, Discovery or the CMDB.
Why does ServiceNow CMDB score low on effort to maintain?
Because the record is only as current as the discovery, connectors and data model a team configures and runs. That scores 40, the lowest in this set, while actionability scores 94, the highest.
What should I add to ServiceNow to improve CMDB accuracy?
Either more native coverage (Discovery, Service Graph Connectors) or a reconciliation layer that reads your other tools and writes corrected records back. Axonius and Oomnitza document the second route; Lansweeper, Armis and runZero document feeding device data into ServiceNow.
