CMDB alternatives ranked for 2026: nine platforms scored on record accuracy and upkeep

SHORT ANSWER

Axonius leads at 83.2 out of 100, followed by Lansweeper at 69.8 and runZero at 69.3. The ranking asks one question: Alternatives to a traditional configuration database: which platform keeps an accurate, trusted asset record without manual upkeep? Completeness and data trust carry 20% each; on upkeep alone, runZero leads, and on actionability ServiceNow CMDB leads.

The record score measures how well an option keeps a complete, reconciled and owned asset record current without people typing it in, and how well that record reaches the system of record and the teams who act on it. It is not a measure of overall product quality: a service desk can be excellent and still score lower here.

Which service desks bundle a CMDB but are not scored?

These service desks list asset and CMDB features on their pricing pages. We read their pricing pages only, not enough to score discovery or reconciliation, so they appear here for reference.

  • Jira Service Management

Standard ($20 per agent per month) lists "Asset and configuration management"; Premium adds "Advanced Asset Management and Configuration". A free plan covers 3 agents.

  • Halo

One price per agent (£66 per agent per month, billed annually, UK list) that includes Asset and CMDB modules, with a 30-day trial.

Not scored: Qualys CyberSecurity Asset Management and Rapid7 Surface Command. Their product pages, read on 11 October 2026, describe a unified inventory and ServiceNow sync (Qualys) or packaged tiers that include a unified asset inventory (Rapid7), but not enough about matching, ownership and upkeep to score them on all seven criteria. Neither shows a price.

Frequently asked questions

Why does ServiceNow CMDB rank in the lower half?

Because this ranking scores keeping the record current without manual upkeep. ServiceNow leads actionability at 94 and scores 86 on keeping the CMDB in sync, but it scores 40 on effort to maintain and publishes no prices. It remains the workflow benchmark.

Why is Axonius not first on every criterion?

Because it is outscored on ownership mapping, effort to maintain, actionability and pricing clarity. Its lead comes from completeness of discovery, data trust and reconciliation and keeping the cmdb in sync, which carry 56% of the weight together.

What does a tie mean?

Totals are shown to one decimal, and options with the same shown total share a rank. No options are tied on default weights.
